Chemical & Cheese Morph Effect
To create a viscious small chemical I used Vellum Grains and morphed the droplet into a cheese by creating a custom deformation animation on the cheese and volume morphing the chemical shape to the cheese shape.
Concept Art “Floating Ship”
We were heavily inspired by the color palette and style of Sony Pictures Animation’s Film “Vivo” (2021) which is most reflected in the concept art I did for the floating ship sequence.
Particle Beam
The particle beam was rather straight forward and a combination of pyro and particle simulations using very stylized emission and forces.
Concept Art “The Rim”
Aiming for simplistic shapes, little volume but a lot of vibrant colors and contrast the concept art I did for the rim sequence should convey the warmth of tropical island sunset whilst leaving room for the even hotter colors of the vulcano.
Zero Gravity Cheese & Stars
For the cheese I decided to go with a FLIP fluid simulation dialing in stickyness and viscosity until I got a result I was happy with. To create the animated stars I used Maya’s MASH system creating a few light sources that were then used in Compositing to set up the glares.
Concept Art “Polar Lights”
My main focus for the polar lights shot was that since it was a one-off, it had to work with the color palette of the film and still convey an ice cold look. Using similar colors to the space shots and working with night tones I used the northern lights as the key light source for the shot.
